“The #1 state for business cannot be among the worst for new mothers.” – Speaker David Ralston
The Georgia House Republican Caucus has made it a priority to combat the high level of maternal mortality in our state. That is why the House created the Study Committee on Maternal Mortality, co-chaired by Chairman Sharon Cooper and Chairman Mark Newton, and pushed for the passage of House Bill 1114 which extends medicaid coverage for new mothers from 2 months to 6 months.
Governor Brian Kemp signed HB 1114 into law yesterday and represents an almost $20 million investment within the budget for fiscal year 2021. We want to thank Chairman Sharon Cooper for sponsoring this critical legislation and her unwavering dedication to Georgia mothers. Moving forward, we will continue to push for solutions that make Georgia the best place to have and raise a family!
